Huntersville, NC (January 13, 2015) – POPULARSPEED.com is proud to announce the promotion of Kayla Darrow to Associate Editor.
Darrow began her career with POPULAR SPEED as a Development Journalist where she received her first taste of published writing. She quickly rose through the ranks to Contributor and has had her byline featured on numerous editorial and news assignments.
Her passion and dedication have given way to her most recent advancement. Darrow is a graduate of the Development Journalist program which is pleased to announce the promotion of Joey Chapman.
Chapman joined POPULAR SPEED as a Development Journalist working to hone his craft of NASCAR-based journalism. Advancing to a Contributor, he will focus on gaining experience writing news-based stories and editorials, under the guidance of Executive Managing Editor Kelly Crandall.
“Joey has been a shining example of what the Development Journalist program is all about,” said Crandall. “He’s young, talented and eager to gain experience by learning from those who are in a position he hopes to reach one day. Since joining the POPULAR SPEED family, not only has Joey’s writing improved but he has grown into a team player and someone we’re proud to have represent us.”
The Development Journalist program aims to highlight young aspiring motorsports journalists by providing hands-on experience. Under the direction of numerous editors, Development Journalists are guided to both develop and improve their writing skills. They are also granted an inside look at the motorsports media world and the publishing process.
“Having started out in the DJ program helped me learn the basics of motorsports journalism, I’m excited to see how the program continues to grow and succeed,” said Darrow. “Personally, I’ve seen my writing and editing techniques strengthen, as well as those of my fellow journalists. The program is a great springboard for those wanting to get involved in the industry. I know it has well prepared me to take on a larger role at POPULAR SPEED.”
The Development Journalist program seeks to expand to their next class of writers entering the 2015 NASCAR season. Additional writers are welcome as POPULAR SPEED embarks on their second full season.
