Two separate incidents in the last two minutes of Sprint Cup Series final practice at Las Vegas Motor Speedway have relegated pole sitter @JeffGordonWeb and @DavidRagan to backup cars for Sunday’s Kobalt 400 (3:30 p.m. ET, FOX).
Ragan was struck first when he got loose in Turn 2 after the right side tires of the No. 18 Crispy M&M’s Toyota got into the marbles. He shot into the outside wall and damaged both the right side and right rear of the machine.
The Joe Gibbs Racing team immediately pulled down the backup car, and Ragan will go to the rear from the 13th starting position.
Had a handful on last run and slapped the wall. We will be ready to roll from the back tomorrow. Cars 2 pass and moves to make!

As for Gordon, the No. 24 3M Chevrolet suffered damaged when he told his Hendrick Motorsports team over the radio he hit a spinning @DanicaPatrick. The car, which won the pole on Friday while setting a new track record, was damaged in the right front and is the same car Gordon won with at Indianapolis and Michigan last year.
The backup car ran at Chicago (finished second), Charlotte (finished second) and Texas (finished 29th) last season.
